My formal art education actually began at Alter High School. Four years of daily art classes with Sr. Margaret Ellen, the courageous nun on crutches, was a great experience. She gave me a solid foundation in the principles of art and experience in a wide variety of media. She encouraged and inspired me to strive for excellence in my artwork, which led to my winning the school's Art Award, regional Scholastic Arts Awards, and a scholarship to art school. Beginning my art education with her guidance was a blessing for which I am forever grateful.

Workshops with nationally-known artists. I began teaching art in the 1990s after a career in commercial art. I teach in schools, homeschool groups, and private lessons for children and adults. The goal of my art program is to introduce students to the basic foundations of visual art as they create artwork in a variety of drawing, painting and sculpture media. Many of them have won awards in student art competitions at museums, schools and county fairs.
The beauty of nature inspires me to paint landscapes. I am drawn to rural locations that remind me of a childhood spent playing in fields and streams. I also paint scenes from my travels, especially Ireland. The name “Irish Deis Studio” honors my Irish ancestry.
I work in pastel, acrylic and watercolor. Sometimes I paint en plein air (outdoors on location). My other paintings are completed in the studio, based on my snapshots, sketches and memories.
