November 2009 Newsletter
Dear Members and Patrons of the Arts:
Where oh where has my summer gone?!! I don't know about the rest of you, but I am not ready at all for winter!! However, it looks and feels as though it's coming early this year, and I guess I have to accept the weather as it comes. But as the chills come forth from Mother Nature we can all rest assured that there will be a warm and friendly welcome for each and every one of you fine people who show up at the next Fairborn Art Association meeting on Tuesday evening, November 3, 2009. We'll have somewhat of a change of venue for you with Jacquelynn Buck's photography presentation, which should be very interesting! So I hope to see all of you there. The meeting proper starts at 7:00 p.m., with refreshments about one-half hour later. A board meeting will start at 6:00 p.m.

NOVEMBER 2009 SPEAKER–JACQUELYNN BUCK, PHOTOGRAPHER
Jacquelynn Buck writes:
I am many things, and I am always growing. I am a photographer on a journey. The lessons I have learned along the paths I have taken have taken me to this place. I am drawn to the vibrant, bold and colorful, the unusual moments and the atypical subjects. The way I take a photograph, indeed, the way I see the world, is an expression of who I am–perhaps vibrant, certainly bold and maybe a bit colorful as well.
Every photo is a part of me and a way for me to meaningfully record what I see, to capture a moment in time that will never be repeated–a sunset that will never be again, the soul exposed for that split second when the shutter clicks, memories captured in an instant that now can never be forgotten. I aspire to use my photography to help others think outside the box. I hope to establish a connection between the usual and the unusual, an off-color version of the world, bright in some spots and dark in others. But in so doing, find a balance between what is aesthetic and what is unique, fascinating and complex. I desire to permanently record the details of the journey with the hope that future generations might learn from what I saw and how I saw it.
I am not formally trained in photography. In fact, I hold a master’s degree in public health–talk about a world of difference! But regardless of profession, I have always had a camera in hand as far back as I can remember. I use a Nikon D700 and, when inspired, a Holga Toy Camera and the trusty Nikon N80 (with Fuji Velvia slide film). I utilize good lenses, a polarizer and a tripod for almost everything. I do work with images in Photoshop CS4, adding overlays and textures, but generally I am a stickler about keeping the integrity of my travel and landscape images intact, or disclosing the truth if I stray from that. If the sunset is orange, it drew me because it was orange and post-production I will not make it pink. If I think a flower should have been in a field where there were no flowers, I plant a seed, I don't cut and paste. And if the sky needs some clouds, I just sit back and wait for the storm.

Holiday Art Sale flyers and press releases will be available at the November meeting for members to display, give, and send. Inventory sheets will also be included with the November newsletter. The big SALE will be publicized in area newspapers and there will be A-frame signs around town. HOWEVER, the more that we all publicize it, the better the sales will be! Let’s have a great show and make lots of sales!
